Body of Remembering / WHO CALLS ME ON WHEN NO ONE IS HOME is a one-night, off-site exhibition by Ella Rerekura held at The Red Zone. The work is rooted in her upbringing within Ōtautahi's red zone, weaving together memories of her younger self with her ongoing journey as a young wahine Māori seeking deeper connections to marae, whenua, awa and whānau. Rerekura has embraced her dance and body practice as a space of stillness and discovery, evolving into a "portal diving" practice—a means of being both present and in communion with her tūpuna. Body of Remembering is a workshop exploring the idea of a remembering body as a vessel for memories. WHO CALLS ME ON WHEN NO ONE IS HOME is a multimedia performance tracing her haerenga and inquiring into belonging and what makes "home". Developed during a residency with MAP (Movement Art Practice), this exhibition invites viewers into an intimate exploration of place, ancestry, and the ever-shifting notion of home.
