Water Glass presents watercolours on paper by Mark Braunias alongside hand-blown glass works created in collaboration with Jarred Wright. The exhibition emerged from an unexpected connection during the 2020 Covid lockdown, when Wright contacted Braunias via Instagram requesting to translate one of his translucently painted forms into glass. Braunias's watercolour process begins from within each composition, using wet brush and colour applied without preliminary outlines to create fluid dimensionality and glass-like qualities on paper. The white of the paper functions as activated space, with controlled contours establishing the physicality of organic shapes. Selected watercolour studies were then transferred to Brisbane, where Wright independently selected works suited to his glass-blowing practice. The resulting glass pieces represent interpretive responses rather than direct replications, taking on new life through Wright's methodology and decision-making. Ten hand-blown borosilicate glass vessels in colours including Sienna, Shamrock, Candy, Lavender, Teak, Tan, Turquoise, Amber, Indigo, and Crystal are displayed alongside numerous watercolour studies on paper.
