Chant Charts

Chant Charts builds on Saskia Leek's mark-making practice, scaling her work to an unprecedented size. These large, banner-like paintings are created using a distinctive process: Leek paints on cut foam and uses it as a press to create marks with immediacy and directness. The works balance chance and deliberate composition, with simple but poised arrangements full of rhythmic repetition. Color carries a dream-like quality, while the paintings oscillate between a sense of impermanence and offering moments of reflection. The exhibition expands on Leek's 2022 illustrated collection of poems, Bordering On Miraculous, translating the gesture and movement of those monoprints into large-scale oil paintings on unstretched canvas.
