This series explores the act of recollection through painting. The motifs are sections from embroidery patterns, initially translated from paper to stretched linen canvas. Working with a predominantly monochromatic palette centered on yellow—a color linked to the artist's grandmother's embroideries and to Greek and Armenian religious painting traditions—Vlavianos creates works that bring together the ground and motif in a symbiotic relationship. By painting into the negative spaces of fractured patterns, she engages in an act of touching the unseen to reveal what is missing and what remains in moments of remembering.
