A wadi is the bed or valley of a stream in regions of south western Asia which are completely dry except during the monsoon. The rain remembers the river, the river the rain. Growing up in Oman and Bahrain, wadis were part of everyday life for Helen Poyser. Twenty years later she began to interpret notions of selfhood and loss with a prolific body of work on paper, comprising over a decade's worth of watercolour painting. Vividly recalling the extreme states of flux in the environments of her childhood, Wadi is an ongoing project in which Poyser attempts to fathom the experiences of severe amnesia that afflict her adult life.
