Jacquelene Drinkall presents weavings made from telecom wire extracted from above- and below-ground telecommunications conduits. The exhibition compresses a collection of these works into Sausage Gallery's compact space. The artist weaves copper, tin, and multicoloured plastic-coated wires into hollow, semi-transparent forms that resemble organic structures—intestines, umbilical cords, DNA spirals, and other bodily forms. Drinkall has worked with telecommunications wire since 1992, creating what she describes as "bodies-without-organs-without-bodies-without-organs." Underground cabling, particularly thicker diameters, provides the widest range of colours, occasionally including rare purple wires. The works are presented as cybernetic, energetic forms full of air. This exhibition marks a significant presentation of works spanning the artist's three-decade practice with the material.
