The Art Gallery of New South Wales, founded in 1871, is Australia's flagship art museum and New South Wales's leading visual arts institution. Housed in a classical-style building in one of Sydney's major cultural precincts, it displays contemporary, modern, and Indigenous Australian art alongside international works. The gallery underwent significant expansion through the Sydney Modern Project, completed in 2022, creating a two-building campus connected by a public art garden with Aboriginal language names - Naala Badu and Naala Nura. It administers the prestigious Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman Prizes and serves as a centre for art education, collection preservation, and scholarship.
